Rights Respecting

Everyone at Charter is proud to use the principles of UNICEF Rights Respecting. This means that we recognise that the rights of all children are at the centre of a healthy learning environment. Adults and children throughout the school community strive to ensure that all children, both in school and around the world, access their rights to the full.

All pupils learn about rights in lessons; pupils learn through rights by being encouraged to question, think critically, and challenge unfairness; and all classes act for rights by campaigning and advocating for the rights of children in the UK and abroad.

At Charter, the child is at the centre of everything we do.

Our ethos of Create, Discover, Succeed, Together supports the culture of Rights Respecting. The rights respecting values underpin all actions taken by leadership and management and that what is in the best interests of the child is of top priority. The whole school community learn about the rights of the child. This shared understanding helps us work together for global understanding and positive living. Charter school staff collaborate to develop and maintain a rights respecting community in all areas of school life. We are empowering our children through C,D,S,T to become active citizens and learners, with every child being able to say what they think in all matters affecting them and have their views taken seriously. All are encouraged to take an active role in their own learning and to speak and act for all to be respected.

We created Rights Respecting discs that have been situated around the school, all of which represent some of the Unicef Rights Respecting Articles.

Charter children helped to decorate 4 discs during a ‘Learn with your Charter Child’ morning.

We hope that you enjoy looking at the finished discs when you come into the school.

We believe that all children should participate in campaigning for a better world, fundraising for those in need, and also recognising when a person or organisation has gone over and above.

Since 2019 each class has made the commitment to sponsor a class elephant through the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

We collect glasses to be donated to World Vision through Spec Savers.

We have supported the charity ‘Smalls for All’ which provides underwear and hygiene kits for people in poverty and those who have been displaced by famine or war. Please click here to visit the Smalls for All website for further information.

We have donated to ‘Oxfam’ to supporting  the following areas:

Access to clean water,
Providing beginner bee kits to support making work fairer for women across the world,
Way to Grow – Sustainable farming,
Training and support women looking for work and starting their own businesses.

Linked to our World Book Day activities we are also supporting ‘Ryan’s Well’ foundation. Please click here to visit the Ryan’s Well website for further information.

Events can be followed on the class Twitter pages.
