Promoting British Values
As a school, we value and celebrate the diverse heritages of everybody at Charter. Alongside this, we value and celebrate being part of Britain. In general terms, this means that we celebrate traditions and customs in the course of the year; for example, Harvest Festival during the Autumn term and a Christmas Carol concert in St Andrews Church. We also value and celebrate national focusses, recent examples being; Universal Children’s Day and Safer Internet Day, with many more opportunities planned in throughout the year to collaborate with the wider community and world e.g. World Toilet Day. On a weekly basis, we use Picture News for one of our whole school assemblies which addresses different situations, linking to British Values & Rights Respecting. Our PSHE curriculum is categorised into key areas: Family and relationships, Wellbeing, Health, Safety, Citizenship & Economic wellbeing and supports how British Values are in intrinsic part of our curriculum.
At Charter Primary School, we teach the fundamental British Values explicitly through our PSHEE and RE curriculums as well as promoting these values through our ethos, the whole curriculum and our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development.
At Charter Primary School, we will actively challenge pupils, staff, parents or anyone in the school community expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including ‘extremist’ views.
